Memory- Elaine Paige

sta semana vamos a recurrir a uno de los mejores musicales de la historia: Cats. En él, el personaje de Grizabella cantaba una canción que ha emocionado y sigue emocionando al mundo entero. Seguro que tod@s la conocéis, se titula Memory.
Y esta semana la canción va dedicada a todas aquellas personas que algún día fueron felices y hoy no lo son, para animarlas a pasar página y vivir el presente, que seguramente el futuro les traiga cosas mucho mejores.

Paige inició su carrera profesional en el Reino Unido en el musical The Roar of the Greasepaint—the Smell of the Crowd en 1964. Debutó en el West End de Londres con Hair y continuó con su participación en Jesucristo Superstar, Nuts, Grease, y Billy.

En 1978 Hal Prince le ofreció el papel de Evita en el musical de Tim Rice y Andrew Lloyd Webber cuando aún era una figura poco conocida. Su actuación la catapultó a la fama recibiendo el Premio de la Asociación del West End (Society of West End Theatre) a la mejor actriz y el Premio Variety Club (Variety Club) como la Personalidad del Espectáculo más Destacada del Año. A pesar de desempeñar el papel principal, Paige estuvo ubicada en los créditos de la obra detrás de David Essex que era el Che Guevara y Joss Ackland como Juan Peron.

Paige encarnó algunos de los personajes femeninos más destacados de Lloyd Webber como Grizabella en Cats. Su interpretación de la canción "Recuerdo" ("Memory") en ese espectáculo es la pieza con la que se le identifica.

En 1986 apareció como Florence en Ajedrez (Chess) con letra de Tim Rice y música de Benny Andersson y Björn Ulvaeus, antes ABBA). Por este trabajo fue nominada para el Premio Laurence Olivier (Laurence Olivier Award) en la categoría Interpretación Extraordinaria de una Actriz en un Musical. En 1989 interpretó también Anything Goes de Cole Porter que coprodujo con Tim Rice. En 1993 interpretó a Édith Piaf en la obra musical Piaf de Pam Gems y entonces en 1994, Paige realizó el papel de Norma Desmond en Sunset Boulevard también de Lloyd Webber.

En 2000 encabezó el elenco en El rey y Yo (The King and I) de Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, donde el Rey fue interpretado por Jason Scott Lee. En 2004 cantó en el papel de Mrs. Lovett en la Opera de New York (New York City Opera) producción de Stephen Sondheim.

En 2006 Paige grabó el álbum "Essential Musicals" basado en canciones populares.
